My name is Rick Grissom. The way Marla and I came to know about the ministry was because of our son. He was doing very badly. We had heard about the ministry so we decided to take him there. He got in and we were unable to see him for 30 days. After the 30 days were up, I started going to the Monday night men’s Bible study. It is amazing what goes on during those Monday night Bible studies. They allowed me time to visit with my son as well as regain that trust we once had. It also let me see the change in the other men’s lives. Through God and his grace, it has changed our whole family and our mission field. We are members of Central Baptist Church in Jonesboro, but we go to John 3:16 Ministries every second and fourth Sundays to do anything they need us to do. We try to help out in any way we can. We have been blessed so much just by doing that. I know it sounds weird, but I get to wash dishes on the fourth Sunday of every month and it is such a blessing. I get to see the new guys come in and grow in Christ. It’s the joy of their smiles and knowing that Jesus is in their lives.
In 2010 my son was very suicidal as was I. The problems we had seemed to be larger than life itself. He was ready to take his life and so was I. That all changed the moment he got into John 3:16. From that moment on, life has been great. God has worked a miracle. God took someone that was ready to end his life and made him new. My son now lives every day for the Lord. He reads his Bible and does things that the mother of a drug addict would never think her son would ever do. We fought this battle for 21 years, and it is just an amazing story today. We do believe in miracles; miracles do happen. I felt a calling into the tough-love ministry because I realized that mothers are in such a need of help. When sons get out of John 3:16 if we, the mothers, don’t change our ways then I could easily see how our sons could slip back into their old ways. I discovered that I had a desire to help the hurting mothers. I want to help in any way I can, so I teach a class on Tuesday nights about tough love. It has been very successful. We always see God in our classes, and we’ve seen miracles from God in our class. It is at South Caraway Baptist Church at 6:00 pm every Tuesday. We have a large group of ladies there, and if anyone is struggling with addiction, these ladies will love you. They will care for you. I don’t care how bad your situation is, we talk about it. The men’s meetings are for men, and these are for women. We talk about our problems, the do’s and don’ts, and when we should help and when we shouldn’t. It has been a tremendous blessing.
